Men's Jeans: Waist Size Conversion
Men's jeans in the US and UK are labeled by actual waist and inseam measurements in inches (e.g. 32×30). European brands typically express waist in centimeters or use a numeric EU size. Italian brands often add yet another scale. The table below covers the most common range.
| US / UK Waist (in) | Waist (cm) | EU Size | Italian Size |
|---|---|---|---|
| 26 | 66 | 36 | 40 |
| 27 | 69 | 37 | 41 |
| 28 | 71 | 38 | 42 |
| 29 | 74 | 39 | 43 |
| 30 | 76 | 40 | 44 |
| 31 | 79 | 41 | 45 |
| 32 | 81 | 42 | 46 |
| 33 | 84 | 43 | 47 |
| 34 | 86 | 44 | 48 |
| 36 | 91 | 46 | 50 |
| 38 | 97 | 48 | 52 |
| 40 | 102 | 50 | 54 |
Quick formula (men's): EU size ≈ US waist in inches + 10. Italian size ≈ US waist + 14.

Women's Jeans: US Arbitrary Sizes to EU and Waist
Women's jeans in the US use an arbitrary sizing scale (0, 2, 4, 6 … or 00–18) that does not directly correspond to body measurements. European women's jeans use the same EU clothing size system as other bottoms. The table below shows approximate equivalents, but fit varies significantly by brand.
| US Women's | EU Size | UK Size | Waist (inches) | Waist (cm) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 00 | 30 | 4 | 23 | 58 |

| 8 | 40 | 14 | 29 | 74 |
| 10 | 42 | 16 | 30–31 | 76–79 |

How to Measure for Jeans
- Waist: Measure around your natural waistline, about 1 inch above your navel, with the tape snug but not tight.
- Inseam: Measure from the crotch seam to the desired hem length along the inner leg. A pair of well-fitting trousers is a useful reference.
- Hips: Measure around the fullest part of your hips, usually 7–9 inches below the waist.
